Design
Strategy
Working with design means you take
a comprehensive view and analyse a range of different
aspects, in order to design or redesign a product, service
or society. According to the
Development Office, design is an innovative and fun way
of working with, and meeting challenges.
When working with design it is important to question the
challenge given by asking 'what is it that we want the
design to do?' (e.g. store food) instead of asking 'what
would we like to design?' (e.g. a refrigerator). The first
question is closer to the real challenge and the function
and purpose the product or service may serve. The question
implies possibilities, invites different competences and
experts and is vital when working for sustainable solutions.
The core of the UK design strategy is to identify different
aspects in the perspective of time and space. It places
an object or service in a global perspective where sustainable
development is one of the most important criteria. This
way the company may get examples of strategies and possible
directions for future work. The following are examples
of aspects design work may include; estethics, function,
user-friendliness, social context, economy, materials,
a company's vision, conditions of production, identity,
transportation, ethics, working conditions, recycling
and not least questions regarding the future. |
